Ph.D. Dissertation

Disordering Capital: The Politics of Business in the Business of Water Provision, Ph.D. Dissertation, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 2022.

  • Public-private partnerships for water and sanitation infrastructure have been increasing in Brazil. My dissertation research helps to explain why. It examines different modalities of private investment in the sector, explains the political ramifications of increasing financial engagement in water and sanitation provision, and illuminates how business mobilization contributed to the approval of a new regulatory framework for the sector in 2020 (Novo Marco Legal do Saneamento, Lei n. 14.026), paving the way for further private investment.
